Important Components of Recovery
Community/Social Support
Social isolation and stressed personal relationships are common for people struggling with AUD. Reconnecting with others is a great way to further explore yourself, and restore emotional balance. These social interactions DO NOT need to be centered around addiction or recovery, but starting out by joining recovery groups is a great way to connect in a supportive environment.
Self Care and Coping Mechanisms
Drinking can feel like a type of self care, but it becomes harmful when it’s used as a primary coping mechanism. Often, people dealing with AUD have replaced other forms of self care with drinking. Finding new ways to care for yourself is an important step in redefining your relationship with alcohol.
Our coaches have prepared a list of resources to help you with these goals, and others, as you make your way through the program. Some of these resources were passed on to us from other Ria Health members: if you find something from outside this list that you think would help other people, feel free to let your coach know!
