James Walker, MD

Dr James Walker is a Board Certified Adult and Addiction Psychiatrist with over 10 years of clinical practice in inpatient, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, and both in-person and telehealth-based outpatient care. He is passionate about meeting individuals with addiction where they are in empathy to collaboratively develop an evidence-based treatment plan that optimizes one’s quality of life.

Dr Walker completed his residency and fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston during which he published research related to medication adherence in alcohol use disorders. Afterwards, he joined the staff at the Carolina Center for Behavioral Health in Greer, SC, working as the lead psychiatrist at an inpatient co-occurring substance abuse detox and mental health unit while also providing care in partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs.

He has spent nearly his entire career in medicine working with a broad range of addictions and has worked at Ria Health since 2022 providing direct care to individuals wanting a healthier relationship with alcohol and additionally collaborating with several nurse practitioners who share this passion. He is licensed in over 15 states and continues to expand this range to maximize his capabilities as a provider.

He currently resides in South Florida and enjoys beaching, running, boating, traveling, reading, eating, and spending time with friends and family when away from work.
