In October 2019, at the company’s San Francisco headquarters, Ria Health underwent a rigorous review by The Joint Commission, the nation’s leading evaluation agency for health care organizations. As a result, Ria has been certified in the Behavioral Health Care category, and awarded the Gold Seal of Approval® for “continuous compliance with the commission’s performance standards.”
This is an important milestone—a sort of Good Housekeeping seal of approval for those involved in behavioral health. It’s a big step forward in Ria’s growth.
How the Review Was Conducted
During the October visit, the team of reviewers evaluated Ria’s compliance in crucial areas: HIPAA, security, and privacy; system of patient care; safety, quality, and research; and operating policies and procedures.
These criteria and the commission’s standards are developed in consultation with behavioral health care leaders and providers, measurement experts, and patients. Informed by scientific literature and expert consensus, the standards help health care organizations measure, assess, and improve performance.
Continuous Quality Improvement Efforts
“We commend Ria Health for its continuous quality improvement efforts in patient safety and quality of care,” said Mark Pelletier, RN, MS, chief operating officer and spokesman for The Joint Commission.
Tom Nix, our chief executive officer, says, “Ria Health’s mission is to bring safe, high quality, evidence-based care for alcohol misuse to all Americans in the United States. The certification from The Joint Commission demonstrates our constant commitment to providing safe, high-quality care that is conveniently delivered through telehealth.”
Our founder and chief medical officer Dr. John Mendelson adds, “The Ria Health medical team is committed to providing the safest and most effective, evidence-based treatment for Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD). The Joint Commission accreditation validates the quality of care and patient outcomes that our team of medical experts has provided to thousands of people who have needed help with their alcohol misuse.”
