Dr. Vipul Patel has over 25 years of experience in internal medicine, and has been certified in and practicing addiction medicine since 2000. He has a passion for direct patient care, and has spent most of his career helping individuals recover from chronic and acute illnesses, including substance abuse. He currently applies this expertise to helping Ria’s members overcome alcohol misuse.
Dr. Patel completed his residency at Helene Fuld Medical Center in Trenton, NJ, before joining the Henry Ford Medical System as Senior Staff Physician. Over the course of nearly 18 years, Dr. Patel provided expert ambulatory and inpatient care at 3 locations in the state of Michigan.
Since earning his certification in addiction medicine, Dr. Patel has worked steadily in substance abuse recovery. At Henry Ford Maplegrove Center, he evaluated substance abuse and co-occurring mental health issues in patients, supervised detox, helped patients identify strategies to attain and maintain sobriety, and worked with therapists to develop individualized treatment plans. He continued this work as Staff Physician at Ascension Brighton Center for Recovery from 2013 to 2020.
